Summary of professional skills and expertise
Summary of relevant work experience Overview of work history: 1992 present: Head of the Laboratory on Geoinformatics and Cartography, Institute of Geography, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Management, preparation, and realization of international and domestic research projects in spatial data infrastructure, GIS, cartographic visualization, mobile technologies, sustainable development, crises management, open electronic atlases and development of Information/Knowledge-based societies. Preparation of global and regional international conferences and symposia. 1984 present: Associate Professor (docent) of cartography and geoinformatics, Institute of Geography, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno. Concentrates in teaching of the BSc., MSc. and PGS (doctoral) students, supervising of geographical projects, diploma theses and doctoral theses. Member of committees for PhD. and associate professors examining commissions, chairman or member of the scientific and pedagogical committee in geoinformatics, remote sensing and cartography at Masaryk University as well as at several other universities in the Czech Republic (including Charles University). Very important part of my activities is research and organizing teamwork in sustainable development, GIS, RS and digital cartography, especially in the programs of EU (5FP, Leonardo da Vinci, Inco-Copernicus), between the Czech Republic and developing countries (e.g. the P.R. of China), Grant Agency of the Czech Republic and local/district governments (land reform process supported by remote sensing, GIS and digital cartography technologies). Occasionally I am invited as an expert for evaluation of the projects 4th (in the past) and 5th Framework programmes and preparation of the new topics for 6th FP of the EU. I am an expert in the EU project INSPIRE and also reviewing scientific papers from abroad and the Czech Republic. I participated as the expert in the activities of FAO, "DGs" Information Society and DG Environment of European Commission in Brussels, Ministry of Informatics and Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic. I am a representative of the Masaryk University in national activities, such as NEMOFORUM and Director of the focal GISIG point in the Czech Republic. Recently, I am a member of the editorial board for Atlas of Landscape of Czech Republic. 1976 1984: Senior assistant at the Institute of Geography, Faculty of Science, Masaryk (formerly Purkyne) University in Brno.
